Three Tones of Virtuosity at Circusstad Festival 2025
In sunny and warm spring weather at the Schouwburgplein in Rotterdam, Circusstad Festival 2025 presented its 15th edition from the 30th April to the 4th May, with a selection of local and international shows and happenings. During my visit, I chose to take a closer look at three of the main shows: Ákri by Manel Rosés, RECLAIM by Théâtre d’un jour, and KA-IN by Groupe Acrobatic de Tanger, directed by Raphaëlle Boitel of Cie. L'Oublié(e). Circustaad offers a variety of nuances of virtuosity, and this aspect shaped my reflections in this report, opening up space for discussion on the art form.

MAMI review
MAMI means mother. MAMI is the newest work of Mario Banushi, the 26-year-old Albanian-born director, who has been hailed internationally as the wunderkind of Greek theatre. It follows his trilogy of show, Ragada (2022), Goodbye, Lindita(2023), and Taverna Miresia-Mario, Bella, Anastasia(2023) While the previous works were centred around the rituals of mourning, this new show is centred around life. It premiered at Onassis Stegi, in Athens, on 6th February 2025

A loop, a spiral, and other infinite objects
The infinite possibilities of movement in repetitive and physically demanding forms were explored during an evening in Korzo Theater in the Hague, at the last edition of Cirquemania #17. The festival hosted two of my favourite shows from the past few years, Cécile by Sinking Sideways, and Concrete by Knot on Hands.

Rock, (paper), paper, (paper), scissors, (paper)
Paper as a new aerial apparatus, paper as a landscape, as a partner. In sum, paper used in countless ways, in the visually stimulating and creative, acrobatic and poetic performance, PLi, by Inbal Ben Haim at Smells Like Circus 2024, in Ghent

EPICIRQ 2023. A glance into the Baltic Contemporary Circus scene
What does a growing creature look like? The raw character and braveness, coupled with the tenderness and honesty of a young and eager-to-grow circus scene, was evident to anyone attending EPICIRQ, the showcase for Baltic contemporary circus, which celebrated its 4th edition, from 6-8 of October in Tallinn, Estonia. This article frames those days, demonstrating how much can be achieved through collaboration and joint forces despite a lack of resources.

How to Relate. Out on the Street Arts Festival of Spoffin
Spoffin in the medieval city of Amersfoort, in the Netherlands, offers a weekend of international performances to discover in the city centre. The program reveals its multidisciplinarity by mixing contemporary circus, dance, and street theatre in the outdoor arts. I spent three days there capturing the vibes and wrote about the 2023 edition, collaborating with the platform Around About Circus.
